VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1.1 release
With the release of VMware Cloud Foundation 9.1.1, Broadcom is expanding the capabilities for managing modern private cloud environments, with a strong focus on AI, Kubernetes, automation, and infrastructure security.
One of the key enhancements is AI Assistant for VCF, an AI-powered assistant integrated into VCF Operations. It enables administrators to interact with the infrastructure using natural language, accelerating troubleshooting, issue analysis, and day-to-day operational tasks. Organizations can also use their own or preferred large language models (LLMs), including models deployed through Private AI Services, allowing AI capabilities to be adopted while maintaining security and data control requirements.
Kubernetes monitoring capabilities have also been significantly enhanced. Through OpenTelemetry integration, VCF Operations enables streaming metrics collection for VMware vSphere Kubernetes Service with intervals of up to two seconds. This helps identify short-lived events, performance issues, and changes in dynamic container environments that may be missed by traditional monitoring approaches. The update also introduces centralized monitoring of Kubernetes clusters and the ability to import existing Grafana dashboards.
The release further strengthens the management of identities, credentials, and certificates. Dynamic integration with Active Directory and OpenLDAP enables real-time validation of users’ current group memberships at login. Centralized password management and certificate lifecycle management capabilities have also been expanded across multiple infrastructure components.
Automation is another key area of enhancement. More than 300 configuration parameters are now available for programmatic management using VMware Salt, helping organizations maintain consistent configuration standards and reduce manual operational effort.
For organizations building or scaling private cloud environments, VCF 9.1.1 introduces a new compact configuration that can reduce resource requirements by up to 40%.
